How should I send in the Peer Evaluation?


The best way to submit a Peer Evaluation is by emailing an attached PDF version of a completed evaluation to Admissions.Office@Dartmouth.edu with "Peer Eval" in the Subject line of the email. It's best if the Peer Eval is typed. You can simply type all the info required on the Peer Evaluation form into a new document and then save it as a PDF (just visit Acrobat.com and signup to create a free PDF online or print to PDF).

If you have trouble creating or emailing a PDF you or your peer may mail the completed evaluation (preferably typed by creating a new document with all the required information; or a hand completed first page and typed statement added) to:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Hanover, NH 03755

The Peer Evaluation should be submitted as soon as possible and post-marked before the deadline--though we will read an application even if the Peer Evaluation has not yet arrived.

Do you prefer to receive virtual (online) copies of all admission materials? If what you do is print it out, then would we be helping you out by mailing you hard copies? Also, the PDF that the Common App's website generates distorts and leaves out some text fields.

We read all materials on the computer so e-copies are best for us and reduce waste and reduce time spent scanning.

Regarding distorted PDFs, I encourage you to install the most recent version of Acrobat Reader from adobe.com

It's not the software that's distorting and cutting out words. The Common App website generates a PDF form of the application which leaves things out. This seems to be a common problem (see http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/common-application/769721-cut-off-extracurricular-short-answer.html). When we click "submit," do you get an e-mail containing that PDF? Or do you get something different?

Now I understand better. I have indeed come across a few applications where the short answer was indeed shorter than the applicant intended (likely they never reviewed the PDF). To prevent the Common App website from cutting off part of your short answer, you simply need to shorten your short answer response. I know this may not be what you want to hear--but it's the best solution. I'm glad you're reviewing the PDF produced by the Common App. Doing a good job completing an application is an exercise in capturing the most important information about you in a concise fashion.

Just to clarify: the "new document" can be a Word document, in which you type "Name, address, SS#, etc..." and then let your friend type his/her evaluation below?

dreamsofmist--yes, your peer evaluator can simply complete a Word document that includes your identification information (date of birth may be safer than SSN). That document can be emailed to admissions.office@dartmouth.edu as a Word attachment or preferably as a PDF attachment.

My friend who wrote my peer evaluation is currently in a town where he does not have access to a computer. Since I'm an international applicant, it would take time to send the form via snail mail. So I was just wondering if it's okay for me to email a pdf of the peer evaluation my friend wrote from my own email account?

My sister wrote the peer evaluation on my behalf. She sent it to Dartmouth by email today(1.1.2010). Is it OK? How Should I realize whether the admission Committee receives the peer evaluation or not?

@sahil: That will be fine.

@farzaneh: If she submitted it on Jan 1, you'll be fine.

Check you application status at http://www.dartmouth.edu/apply/admissions/status/ to see if your application is complete.

@farzaneh: Once we've processed all our mail, we'll be emailing applicants with incomplete applications in mid-February. Be checking your email for an update. If your status doesn't show complete by mid-February you can call our office.
